Chapter Eleven

ALISTAIR

I groaned in satisfaction as I stirred awake to birds chirping and filtered sun rays coming through the window into my room, stretching out my limbs before I rose from the bed. I slid into my indoor slippers and walked towards the bathroom to relieve myself, suppressing a yawn with the back of my palm.

I glanced at the clock atop the wall as I headed for the bathroom, nodding briefly. It was 7:00 a.m.

As always, I was an early bird. Even though it was the weekend, and I should sleep an hour or two later to regain my body's vigor from the frenzy I had put it through during the week while preparing to launch the restaurant, I had still woken up earlier than I had expected, after all.

Moaning softly, I rubbed a palm down my face to clear the lingering fog of drowsiness off my eyes and relieved myself. Pulling my shorts back on, I pressed the flush button and washed my face, listening to water sloshing down the drain and the sink drumming in my head.

The weekends were mainly my time for catching up with recreational hobbies besides working. My favorite was visiting the Elitist Men Association to play golf and argue about sports and various topics of interest.

The experience was always exhilarating, and I had always looked forward to the next meeting I would have with them by the weekend. However, I could not pinpoint how exactly I felt the following day.

I could blame it on stress and overexertion throughout the week, as I felt exhausted against the usual burst I often had at every rise in the morning.

It was probable I would be flopping putting in an appearance at the golf club, as I didn't have the urge to go anywhere for the day.

I went through my morning exercise, push-ups, and running on the treadmill, hoping that would help drown out the monotony draining the strength out of me.

I heaved an exasperated sigh as I went to the bathroom to wash the sweat off my body and changed into a casual T-shirt and shorts—I would be forfeiting attending the meeting then.

"Good morning, "sir," my butler greeted me politely as I walked into the dining room and settled at the top of the table to delve into whatever delicacy he had prepared for breakfast.

The man was a good cook, and his dishes always had me looking forward to what he would prepare for the next course. His food dishes were always something to relish and had a sumptuous flavor.

I tipped a nod at him in response and waited while he served me to breakfast with an efficiency of a highly skilled chef with top ratings, which he technically was.

After having breakfast, I walked to the living room to get on with the other schedules I had planned for the day. It was hard gaining focus. I could not even pay attention to the file I was working on.

Pulling out a deep breath in annoyance, I slumped back against the armchair I was sitting on, throwing my palms flat against my thighs.
